|
BIO:
Hello! My name is Malaika C! I am truly humbled and honored to become the 2022 Face of America. First and foremost, I would like to thank God and my grandmother who is my guardian angel for blessing me with this opportunity. I would like to thank my supporting family, friends, colleagues, and MY CITY of Cambridge, Massachusetts for your generosity, love, and support, in helping to make this dream come true. I would like to thank Supreme Studios of NYC (@Lksupremestudios) for my amazing photos, and my director Safiya at Shea Management for encouraging me throughout this process. I'm still in shock at the results- ARE YOU SURE!?! You've made "Just a kid from Cambridge" become the first Face of America from Massachusetts. With this, I thank and love you so much. Most importantly, I would like to express my thanks to NBP Cosmetics for ultimately creating this amazing opportunity while still supporting those who are in need (FEEDING AMERICA). It has always been a dream to become a model as well as an entertainer. But never in my wildest dreams did I think of my name & face being posted in Times Square! NBP I cannot thank you enough! Because of you, you've opened more opportunities for me and whoever is the next FOA. When I was younger, as a little dark-skinned African-American girl, my eczema and scarring allowed me to believe I wasn’t pretty. Growing up aside from others, I was never picked first to participate or complimented more beyond my smile. Later, I believed my age caused me to miss chances at attaining my dreams, and eventually, I thought my weight blocked me from the chances of ever being seen. Now crowned as FOA, I share my experiences in hopes to be an inspiration and encouraging others to be themselves. More importantly, to know, it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. My hope is to inspire those with similar stories, but especially those who look like me. I want those who feel they aren’t pretty enough, “too old,” to think they've lost their chance, that it’s never too late. To those who have the talent yet dim themselves to allow others to shine brighter, I want them to know that they ARE worthy. YOU can shine big and dream boldly and know that the only person holding you back is yourself. It’s hard to take that first step. At 31, I am my biggest cheerleader. YOU can be your biggest cheerleader even when it hurts. But please remember, what you think is your worst, could be someone else’s best. Don’t compare yourself to others but be INSPIRED of their journey. Thank you, America for your support & I hope you continue to follow my journey! - Malaika Coleman - Malaika was born and raised in a single-parent household in Cambridge, Ma.
